One January day we held a small social at our East Austin residence. It was the first time since the national elections that Free Zilker met, and some people brought crafts to help relax. My husband and I were planning a Mardi Gras dinner party, and I was decorating masks for that occasion. Just for fun, I handed some masks around along with glitter, paints and brushes to give people something to do with their hands while we chatted. People got busy.
It was Cedar Stevens who looked up with a gleam in her eye and said what if we made some of these for fund raising? And suddenly the Mardi Gras/Masquerade mask project took on a life of its own, dominating our dining room for many weeks. When the cloud of glitter died down, we had 43 uniquely decorated masks for Free Zilker GPAC to offer.
Each mask has been lovingly hand decorated with paint, glitter, rhinestones or other fun trimmings.
They are suitable for Mardi Gras, masquerades or any occasion where incognito is preferred.
So, Laissez les bons temps rouler—or Let the good times roll!

These masks will be available March 1 and 2, at at Surf x Surf East and they will be given as premiums in exchange for donations to Free Zilker Coalition.
